| An awareness session “Shrigandha Swasthya” on menstrual hygiene and women’s health was organised by Shrigandha Kannada Balaga on Saturday, Dec 31st 2022, at the Ujjani Government high school. Dr. Meenakshi Bharath, a renowned Gynecologist, and Dr. Rashmi Prashanth, a renowned Paediatrician were the chief guests at the programme. The doctors spoke about menstrual cycles, precautions to be taken, and menstrual cycle related misconceptions.

| Attention of the girls and parents was brought to the disadvantages of using single-use disposable sanitary pads. The benefits of using cloth based sanitary pads, menstrual cups, and such other alternatives were highlighted. Women members of Shrigandha foundation pitched in with their experience of using cloth based sanitary pads and menstrual cups. |

| Most importantly, the misconceptions around menstrual cycles and the need to talk about it without hesitation was emphasised. Dr. Rashmi spoke about balanced diet, eating habits, nutritional needs, and composition of food - fibre, protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins. She also spoke about the sources of these nutrients and the requirement of various nutrients in a balanced diet. |

| While the children were initially hesitant, as the programme progressed they were able to confidently ask their questions and seek clarifications. Eco friendly cloth based pads were distributed to the girls along with detailed usage instructions. |
